Networking Guides

What to Say, How to Follow Up, What to Track

Practical playbooks pulled straight from our Networking Like a Pro series — built to use, not just read.

How to use these

Fill them in — they build as you type

Two of these are live builders: type in your details and your intro and your memory hooks assemble in real time, ready to copy. The rest are checklists and agendas you can work straight off the screen. Everything here comes from the Networking Like a Pro series.

Guide 1 · Builder

Your 60-second intro

Pairs with Segment 6: The Specific Ask.

Your 60-second intro

Hi, I'm [your name] with [your business]. I help [who you help] who are struggling with [the problem you solve]. A great connection for me this week would be [who you want to meet].

Guide 2 · Agenda

1:1 meeting agenda — the GAINS exchange

Pairs with Segment 4: The GAINS Exchange.

A one-to-one turns an acquaintance into a referral partner — but only if it goes deeper than small talk. GAINS gives you the five things to trade. Copy it, fill in your side before the meeting, and swap.

1:1 GAINS Exchange · 30–45 minutes

Before: each person fills out their GAINS below and trades sheets. G — Goals What are you working toward, in business and in life? [your answer] A — Accomplishments What are you proud of? (This builds credibility and rapport.) [your answer] I — Interests What do you love outside of work? (This is what makes you memorable.) [your answer] N — Networks What groups, orgs, and circles are you part of? (This is where your reach overlaps.) [your answer] S — Skills What are you genuinely great at — and what's a perfect referral for you? [your answer] To close: each person names ONE specific way they can help the other this month.

Guide 3 · Checklist

Event prep & follow-up

Most networking value is won before you arrive and after you leave. Work this list around your next event.

Guide 4 · Tool

Contact sphere mapping

Pairs with Segment 3: Your Contact Sphere.

Your contact sphere is the set of professions that serve the same client you do without competing with you. Referrals flow naturally — both ways — between you. Here's the shape of it:

YOURCLIENTRealtorLenderInsuranceAttorneyAccountantContractor
Example sphere for someone serving homeowners — swap the spokes for the professions in your world.
Map your own — fill it in

My ideal client: [describe them in one line] Who else already serves this exact client without competing with me? 1. [profession][a name to find or already know] 2. [profession][name] 3. [profession][name] 4. [profession][name] 5. [profession][name] 6. [profession][name] My move: pick the two strongest and ask each for a 1:1 this month.

Guide 5 · Builder

Memory hook builder

Pairs with Segment 5: Memory Hooks.

Trade your forgettable job title for a line people can repeat. Fill in the blanks and watch three hook formulas build below — then pick the one that paints the clearest picture.

Your hook options

I'm the one [who you help] call when they don't want [the problem you prevent].

I help [who you help] go from [the problem you prevent] to [the good outcome].

You know how [who you help] struggle with [the problem you prevent]? I make sure that doesn't happen.

The test: if someone repeated your hook tomorrow, would their friend know exactly who to call? Keep it under 10 words, unexpected, visual, and relevant.

This Week's Action

Lock in your two essentials

  1. Build your 60-second intro and your memory hook above — copy and save them.
  2. Use them at the next EPIC meeting. Watch which version makes people lean in.
  3. Book one 1:1 and run the GAINS exchange. That's how a contact becomes a referral partner.
The honest version (because we tell the truth here): these tools don't work in a drawer. The intro you never say, the 1:1 you never book, the follow-up you never send — none of it counts. Pick one guide, use it this week, and let the reps make it natural. Networking rewards the consistent, not the clever.
